History of the group
The Oxley Creek Flood Action Group began in July 2023 following the Oxley Resilience Festival in June 2023. The group meets every 6 weeks on a Saturday afternoon and has approximately 35 members as of July 2024.
Residents from Oxley and Corinda interested in flood mitigate, Neighbourhood and Street Disaster Plans or who have other ideas and aspirations around flood and disaster preparation, and the resilience & wellbeing of the community along Oxley Creek are welcome to come along.
The Oxley Creek Flood Action Group began following Benarrawa CDA’s engagement with residents along Oxley Creek by doorknocking over 500 residents to hear their experiences, hopes and concerns following February 2022 Flood Event. Residents were interested in information from recovery services and a family fun day. In partnership with Club Oxley, Benarrawa facilitated the Oxley Resilience Festival where over 1000 residents attended a Family Fun event and accessed over 15 disaster recovery, resilience an preparedness organisations.
Benarrawa continues to doorknock and flyer drop over 2000 residents along the Oxley Creek, in Corinda and Oxley to provide information and resources and to link residents to the Oxley Creek Flood Action Group and its activities.
